Beach life-in-death 2011
Separating the new one from the old with the parenthetical title Face to Face, this fondly familiar project improves upon the DIY classic on all fronts. All this culminates into a living breathing creature, known as Twin Fantasy.Īfter seven years of recording and touring, Will had matured and developed far beyond the scope of his high school self, and was ready to give his magnum opus a new coat of high budget paint, a makeover that was well deserved.
#Beach life in death 2011 Patch
This combination of independence and congregation weaves a boundless and sprawling quilt, each patch melting into one another, without losing sense of themselves. Like scenes in a movie, each song plays their part in developing a whole and complete picture without diminishing the inherent value of the song on its own. Over an hour long, it soars through a large range of themes and ideas, always developing each thought to their climax, only to move on to a brand new one in a moments notice. It wasn’t until he released Twin Fantasy after an astounding six LPs however, that his true genius was revealed.Ī breakup album for the ages, Twin Fantasy is nothing less than a masterpiece. Ranging from songs about anthropomorphic drums in the aptly named track “The Drum” to heart wrenching screams into a void of uncertainty in the song ”Something Soon”, Will Toledo had already established himself as a capable and innovative artist. His music thrived off the abrasiveness of punk and the gloom of introspective lyrics, all blanketed by an overhead of lo-fi aesthetics. After class he would drive out to a secluded location, boot up his laptop and wail his heart out to a USB microphone, naming himself Car Seat Headrest after this very activity.
Will Toledo, the founding member of Car Seat Headrest, has been making music since high school. Its true inception however, originates all the way back to 2011. Twin Fantasy is a record that was released in 2018 by the band Car Seat Headrest. Like I mentioned earlier however, it's got the fundamentals of sound and writing to back it up regardless of its relatability.
It's keen ability to describe exactly what I was going through is why I love it so much. The experiences and the story that go along with this record mirror a very similar event in my life. The reason it's my favorite record however is because of how real it feels and how intimately I can relate to it. One of those things is an album by the name of Twin Fantasy.Īs I will momentarily disclose in high detail, this album is a great record musically and conceptually. Things that pierce beyond the murky puddle of consciousness and touch my inner soul, shaking it up and birthing it anew. There are few things in this world that I truly connect with.
